Chapter 249: Blessings of the War Goddess
Chapter 249: Blessings of the War Goddess
Blessings of the War Goddess
A long sigh escaped Max’s lips.
He rubbed the bridge of his nose before finally speaking.
"Come on, ladies. Can we not turn my office into a battlefield?"
His voice wasn’t loud, nor was it particularly stern, but it carried enough authority to instantly cool the situation.
Ruby clicked her tongue in annoyance, though she lowered her weapon.
Natalia folded her arms across her chest and deliberately looked away.
The tension still lingered in the room, thick enough to be felt, but at least neither of them looked ready to tear the office apart anymore.
Max let out another quiet breath.
"And Lady Natalia, please let Lady Ruby finish what she was trying to say."
Natalia didn’t respond immediately.
A few moments of silence passed.
The second Ruby noticed that, a victorious smile spread across her beautiful face.
Natalia’s eyebrow twitched.
Normally, she would have fired back without hesitation.
But after taking a moment to calm herself, she suddenly became aware of how immature she had been acting.
As a Holy Maiden, this was hardly the image she was supposed to uphold.
’Damn it...’
Her fingers curled slightly beneath her sleeves.
’Why is it always her? Out of everyone from the Temple of the Dragon War Goddess Kia, she’s the one who gets under my skin the most.’
Seeing Natalia refuse to react only made Ruby’s smile widen.
The scarlet-haired woman stepped forward with obvious confidence before taking her place beside Videl.
Videl immediately felt a headache forming.
Seriously, what was with everyone standing so close to her?
Victor alone was already enough trouble.
Now these two Holy Maidens had arrived and somehow made the situation even more complicated.
Ruby cleared her throat and straightened her posture.
"Anyway," she said, shooting Natalia one last smug glance, "about the blessings... Max is right. Everything happened exactly the way he explained."
The playful expression on her face faded.
For the first time since arriving, she looked every bit like a representative of one of humanity’s great temples.
"The blessings are divine gifts granted by the Gods and Goddesses each temple serves."
"They are bestowed upon the warrior chosen by a Holy Maiden."
Ruby’s green eyes shone slightly.
"So if you choose to become my chosen hero, then the Dragon War Goddess Kia may grant you abilities that would transform you into a true force upon the battlefield."
Videl listened attentively.
The room became quiet.
Even Natalia remained silent.
"Some heroes receive blessings that sharpen their minds and allow them to become brilliant strategists."
"Others receive blessings that strengthen their bodies and instincts, turning them into legendary warriors capable of changing the outcome of entire wars."
Ruby paused.
A faint smile appeared on her lips.
"The exact blessing is never the same."
"It depends on the will of the Goddess herself."
"What she sees."
"What she values."
"And what she believes suits the hero standing before her."
Videl nodded slowly.
That made sense.
Divine blessings were not something people could simply choose.
Ruby continued.
"So unfortunately, I can’t tell you the exact ability you would receive."
"But I can tell you one thing."
A trace of pride entered her voice.
"Every blessing granted by the Dragon War Goddess Kia is a powerful tool for battle."
As she spoke, her gaze swept over Videl’s athletic frame.
The toned muscles hidden beneath her clothes.
The calm confidence in her sapphire eyes.
The strength she had displayed earlier.
Ruby looked genuinely impressed.
"You have excellent potential."
"To be honest, your physique is better than many male warriors I’ve met."
Videl blinked.
She wasn’t sure whether that was a compliment.
Ruby laughed.
"It is."
Videl awkwardly rubbed the back of her neck.
"Thank you... I think."
Ruby’s smile widened.
"Not only would you gain influence within the Temple of the Dragon War Goddess Kia, but you would also gain powerful allies."
She placed a hand over her chest.
"If you wished, I could become your sworn sister and personally teach you military strategy, battlefield command, and the arts of war."
Videl looked surprised.
"A sworn sister?"
"Of course."
Ruby nodded confidently.
"Don’t misunderstand."
A teasing smile appeared on her face.
"You are beautiful, but I prefer men."
Videl nearly choked.
Natalia rolled her eyes.
Ruby continued as if she hadn’t just dropped something so embarrassing into the conversation.
"I want a man capable of conquering my heart, mind, and spirit."
She shrugged.
"Since you’re a woman, becoming sworn sisters would make far more sense."
Videl immediately relaxed.
"That’s good."
Ruby raised an eyebrow.
"Oh?"
Videl coughed awkwardly.
"I already have someone."
The moment Victor’s face appeared in her mind, her expression softened slightly.
Ruby immediately noticed.
Natalia noticed as well.
Both women exchanged a glance.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
"Oh?" Ruby repeated.
"Someone special?"
Videl’s face turned faintly red.
She looked away.
"I intend to marry him one day."
The room became quiet.
Ruby stared at her for several seconds.
Then a grin slowly spread across her face.
"Now you’ve made me curious."
Videl suddenly regretted saying anything.
Meanwhile, Natalia looked thoughtful.
A hero candidate.
Powerful.
Talented.
And already devoted to someone.
That was unexpected.
Ruby chuckled.
"Well, that’s a discussion for another day."
She crossed her arms.
"For now, my offer stands."
"Become my chosen hero and I’ll personally guide you through the military traditions of the temple."
"There are many things I can teach."
Videl opened her mouth to answer.
But before she could say anything—
Someone pushed Ruby to the side.
