Chapter 278: You Touched My Reverse Scale
Chapter 278: You Touched My Reverse Scale
Tina Huxley conversed with him perfunctorily, pretending not to notice the curious look in Julian Huxley’s eyes.
Having Justin Huxley’s example before her, Tina dared not trust Julian to have good intentions.
If the two of them could collaborate, that would be fine, but she wouldn’t let Julian know too much about her own affairs.
Julian knew she was wary of him, so he smiled nonchalantly, agreed to visit Tina’s house in two days to pay respects to Mrs. Huxley, and left The Huxley Estate without lingering.
Left behind, Tina stomped her foot in frustration as she watched the road the two had taken, and then drove away herself.
After all three had departed, the butler returned to Old Master Huxley’s room.
"Have they all left?"
"Yes, sir," the butler placed the tea he had brought beside him, "they’ve all left."
"Each of them harbors ill intentions," Old Master Huxley lifted the teacup, blowing away the froth on top, "they really think I don’t know what they’re thinking? Each of them, not capable yet still trying to act tough."
"Young people, they never have your foresight," the butler patiently persuaded him, fearing he might get angry.
"They’re resentful, thinking that the Sinclair Family let the young take charge early on, and that I should step down and give them the position," Old Master Huxley stomped his cane on the ground, "but who is Maxim Sinclair? He’s a natural-born hard character, born with a rebellious heart, just look at how he treats his siblings. Our Hughes Family’s children are naturally kind but can’t compete with someone so wicked."
"True, very true."
The butler nodded repeatedly.
Sinclair Group, President’s top office
Maxim Sinclair couldn’t help but sneeze three times in a row, and Charles Jenson, who was checking data beside him, teased without looking up, "Someone’s thinking about you, not sure if it’s the Huxley Family or that one at your home."
"Quickly verify the data and report the results to me before the full hour, I need it urgently!" Maxim rubbed his nose and continued dealing with the files on his desk.
Charles had coincidentally reached the final bit of verification; after finishing it, he patiently browsed through the table again, confirmed that the data was correct, placed it on the desk, flicked it towards Maxim, "Done, President Sinclair, when do you plan to send this form to the tax department?"
Maxim, distracted from the documents in front of him, checked the report organized by Charles and nodded with satisfaction, "Not bad, no rush to report it, the Huxley’s drama has just started, now’s not the time to spoil the fun."
After the table was submitted, Charles had nothing much to do, so he moved over to chat with Maxim, "Justin Huxley has been in the limelight lately, such treatment, he must have been dreaming of it for years."
"Since the day he wanted to stay in Stellarion but was chased abroad by the combined efforts of the other branches, he had been preparing to come back strong."
Maxim spoke, twirled his pen, and gazed out the window with distant eyes, recalling Justin Huxley’s expression and look when he was banished from Stellarion.
Later, when Maxim became the chairman of the Sinclair Group, he would often remember that look of Justin Huxley.
He originally thought Justin would rely on his own ability to find a way to gain control of Omni Group.
But never did he expect Justin to ultimately choose to exploit a woman to strike at him, such an act was utterly despised by him.
He touched his reverse scale first, so in that case, Justin shouldn’t blame him for being ruthless.
...
With the silent indulgence of Old Master Huxley, Justin’s work within Omni Group progressed very smoothly.
Those who initially opposed him didn’t hesitate long after discovering Mr. Huxley was still in a coma, seizing the shareholders’ meeting opportunity to pledge allegiance to Justin one after another.
Justin naturally welcomed them all, quickly expanding his power.
Under his intentional pressure, the senior executives who were previously polite or flattering in front of Tina also changed their attitudes.
This gave Tina a firsthand experience of "how quickly forget kindness once the tree has fallen."
Earlier on, Tina was entirely focused on marrying Maxim Sinclair, so she didn’t put much thought into managing the business.
The little bit of business management experience she had was only to advance further with Maxim Sinclair.
Though she learned some business knowledge under Mr. Huxley’s compulsion, unfortunately, it was all theoretical, as practical operations proved to be very challenging.
Especially now, the disparity in strength between her and Justin is enormous, and many are doing both open and covert machinations against Tina to show allegiance to Justin.
This made her resistance increasingly difficult.
Tina was tormented, sleepless every night, yet dared not reveal too much to Mrs. Huxley, fearing it would worry her.
On the other hand, the successful Justin in his leisure time started thinking about Summer Lowell.
At the time, his assistant Cameron Young was accompanying him to play golf; ten minutes ago, they just closed another deal, originally with a 90% chance of falling to Sinclair Group.
Coincidentally, Justin, in his regular research of Sinclair Group’s businesses, keenly discovered a subsidiary under Sinclair Group had just taken over a hill, along with soft promotions launched by the Group’s marketing accounts.
It was clear Maxim Sinclair intended to open another holiday resort.
This vacation hotel coincidentally aligned with Justin’s own plans.
Justin had intended to open a similar hotel but never found suitable land; with this happening, he began calculating how he could seize this hill.
While he was still worrying, his good assistant Cameron brought him great news.
The person responsible for ultimately deciding the fate of this hill had previously had an emotional entanglement with his assistant, Cameron.
And according to his observation, that person seemed to have lingering feelings for Cameron.
Eager to seize the hill, Justin offered Cameron numerous benefits to persuade her to work on the matter.
Who knows how Cameron managed it, but within three days, she brought Justin the news that he could get a subcontract for the hill.
Today’s golf game was hosted by Justin, inviting that responsible person to join.
He planned to host the person well after the game, but unfortunately, the person’s schedule was too full, and after clearly expressing willingness to cooperate with Justin, they left.
"Cameron, if you and Mr. Adler hadn’t been in a long-distance relationship, you’d probably have kids running errands by now, wouldn’t you?"
Cameron, with a somewhat peculiar expression, from an angle he couldn’t see, replied, "These things can’t be predicted, even without a long-distance relationship, there would always be something that would separate two people, such as growing tired of each other over time."
