Chapter 190 Even so, I still choose
He gazed at the chaotic sky obscured by the figure of the evil god, his vision growing increasingly blurry.
"That's fine—" A thought flashed through his hazy consciousness: at least—he'd taken one down, so he could—reunite with—everyone—.
Just as his consciousness was about to completely sink and he was preparing to face death, a strange change occurred.
A familiar power suddenly erupted from the depths of his spiritual world, surging and growing stronger at an unprecedented speed.
Memories of magic, the system, and the current situation returned with crystal clarity, like shattered pieces of a mirror being pieced back together.
He remembered that this was not reality, but a trial.
Li Ang's eyes widened suddenly, and in an instant, all the wounds, weakness, and despair receded like a receding tide. He was still lying on the ground, but the surging spiritual energy around him told him that everything had returned.
The hellish scene he just witnessed was merely an illusion created by the trial, targeting his deepest fears.
He sprang to his feet and carefully sensed the seventh star that had appeared in his spiritual world.
His gaze then swept over the still grotesque illusions around him, and a cold smile curled at the corner of his mouth.
He stopped looking at the terrifying phantom and instead turned his gaze to the end of this space, to the Titan of Courage wielding a giant shield.
"Even if I have nothing, I will fight on. That is my answer."
As Li Ang gave his answer, the scenery around him began to blur. The mountains of corpses and seas of blood, the evil gods and dark witches around him, melted and faded away rapidly, like ice and snow exposed to the sunlight.
When he regained consciousness, Li Ang found himself standing once again on that smooth, mirror-like rocky ground, with the same chaotic void above him.
Beside him, Maya also opened her eyes at the same time. The two looked at each other and saw in each other's eyes the clarity and stronger will that came after going through the ordeal.
[Trial of Courage, passed. The gift of courage is bestowed upon you. When activated, your heart is as firm as a rock, fearless and undaunted, impervious to all evil.]
The peaceful yet profound voice rang out once more, and a dark golden beam of light descended, enveloping Maya.
Then, on the back of her left hand, next to the stigmata of wisdom and power, a third stigmata radiating a dark golden luster slowly emerged and coalesced.
On the back of Maya's left hand, the three sacred marks of wisdom, strength, and courage intertwine and form a circular shape.
The peaceful voice of the Titan of Courage echoed once more in the empty hall:
The three trials have now been completed. The Titans' bounty is now upon you. Go forth, future king, with your courage and faith, to forge your own era.
Having completed their trials at the Hall of Ancestors in Lightning Mountain, the group rode Olivia back to the foot of the mountain and boarded the waiting unicorn carriage.
Back on the third floor of the "Honey and Wine" hotel, as soon as the door to the command center closed, the enforcement team badge on Li Ang's chest vibrated rapidly and rhythmically.
He immediately activated the communication system, and an order came from headquarters: "Captain Li Ang, the high command has made a decision regarding your application for final decision-making authority. In view of your previous outstanding performance, the high command trusts your judgment and hereby grants you the highest decision-making authority over this incident. You have full authority to decide how to deal with King Frostheart Maxwell and Regent Gron Maxwell based on the situation on the ground, but you must do so in the name of the Alliance to ensure that Sandramea Maxwell smoothly ascends the throne and continues to be loyal to the Alliance."
The voice paused for a moment, then continued, "Furthermore, the support forces dispatched by the Tower have been deployed to Thunder Town, outside the Thunder Mountains. Led by Natasha, the captain of the Sixth Squad, they are accompanied by the Second and Fourth Squads, as well as three joint operation squads from the Obsidian Tower. They can provide armed support at any time. The following is the dedicated communication frequency for the support forces; if their intervention is needed, you can call them directly through this frequency."
A complex string of magical frequency codes then entered Li Ang's senses.
"Li Ang received." Li Ang replied in a deep voice, and the communication was immediately cut off.
He let out a slight breath, his gaze sweeping over Eric and Celia present, without hiding anything: "Headquarters has given me full authority, and support has already arrived on the outskirts of Thunder Town."
"Oh? Which teams are participating this time?" Captain Eric asked.
Li Ang said with a smile, "Natasha, Martin and the others, as well as the second squad, and they said there are also people from Obsidian's side."
Eric nodded and said, "The second squad is Bennett's team."
Leon wasn't very familiar with Bennett; he had only seen him a few times from afar and only remembered that he was a young man with red hair.
Relying on his memory, Li Ang skillfully adjusted the badge and quickly connected to the frequency band he had just acquired.
After a brief period of static, a cheerful female voice, tinged with a hint of teasing, rang out: "Li Ang? I heard things aren't going too well over there? How's it going? Need us to come and support you?"
Li Ang smiled helplessly and replied, "Captain Natasha, we don't need your intervention here for the time being. However, keep communications open and be prepared to deploy at any time."
"Don't worry, the second, fourth, and sixth squads are all in position. Three squads from Obsidian Tower have also arrived. Tsk tsk, they really stick with the team in every raid, not wanting to miss out on any credit." Natasha's tone was slightly teasing, but mostly reassuring.
Li Ang couldn't help but smile to himself. Obsidian Tower truly lived up to its reputation as the brother tower of Leli Tower; they really stepped up when something happened here.
After ending communication with the support troops, Li Ang immediately summoned all team members.
He looked at Sandramea and asked, "Your Highness, according to dwarven tradition, what are the specific rules for the challenge for the throne? How is the final outcome determined?"
Maya took a deep breath, straightened her back, and began to explain in detail: "According to the oldest tradition, the challenge to the throne is a one-on-one duel between the challenger and the current king, until one side is completely incapacitated or voluntarily concedes defeat. The winner becomes the new king of Ironforge and gains the allegiance of all dwarven families."
Li Ang nodded, pondered for a moment, and then stated his plan: "Given that we know the Dark Witch Loki is lurking here, we cannot commit all our forces to the throne challenge at once. Tomorrow, our First Special Operations Team will accompany Princess Maya to the palace to formally present the challenge, probing the opponent's reaction and trump cards. Captain Eric, your entire Eighth Squad, along with the sorceress Celia, will remain at the inn on standby, acting as a surprise force in the shadows."
He looked at Eric with a serious expression: "During this time, I will send you a safety signal every thirty minutes via the badge. If the signal is interrupted, do not hesitate to immediately lead everyone to evacuate Ironforge, and at the same time call for Captain Natasha and the others to intervene."
