Chapter 87 A Prayer from Triss
The gold coin bounced high into the air and then fell back down, but his outstretched hand caught nothing.
Cyril turned his head to the side and saw a woman in a dark gothic court dress standing next to him.
She had light gold hair, azure eyes, and exquisite features, but her face was unusually pale, with only a faint expression. In her outstretched right hand, she held the gold coin that he had tossed for divination.
The two stared at each other for a moment, then the lady in the dark Gothic court dress placed the gold coins in her hand on the small round table in front of him, and then spoke:
"Your abilities seem quite special, and I have a vague sense of danger about you. Just to be safe, come along and take a look."
Cyril nodded slightly, accepting the explanation.
There was nothing he could do if he didn't accept it; he had already recognized the other party—a Sequence 5 "vengeful spirit." Sharon of the Temperance faction of the Rose School paused briefly before explaining simply, "Extraordinary individuals through the 'Apprentice' pathway are indeed quite rare."
He did not explain the source of Sharon's sense of danger, nor did she ask.
After a brief exchange, Sharon took a step back, her figure quickly becoming transparent.
Seeing that Sharon was about to leave, Cyril quickly raised his hand and asked:
"Madam, are you familiar with the higher-level extraordinary individuals in Backlund?"
"As I progressed through the ranks, I found that those gatherings of extraordinary individuals that were once quite good were no longer suitable for me."
Upon hearing the question, Sharon's figure solidified again. She looked Sirion up and down before speaking:
"I know, but you're still too weak for that level of gathering."
"You must have joined an organization to have advanced from Sequence 9 to Sequence 7 in just over a month. This kind of gathering among wild extraordinary individuals isn't that necessary for you."
"You knew me before?"
Cyril paused for a moment, realizing that Sharon had seen and remembered these words when he was still an "apprentice".
Sharon responded calmly, "A friend of yours has been in contact with you."
Cyril searched his memory for the time when he was still an "apprentice," and soon locked onto one person.
The man who took his money to join the "Eye of Wisdom" gathering when he first came to the Brave Ones Bar.
He had never seen the man since that gathering. He had previously thought that the man had been targeted for revenge or imprisoned in the basement of some church.
Now it seems that the person at the time was most likely another Temperance member who had fled to Backlund. As "Living House" Marich pondered this, he heard Sharon's restrained, cool voice again: "How did you find me?"
Upon hearing this, Xireen pointed to the glass window behind her:
"I have entered the mirror world before and encountered danger there, so I have been paying close attention to it ever since."
"Furthermore, you didn't conceal your presence when you were in the mirror world, so I noticed your reflection when I was observing the mirror."
Sharon nodded slightly, seemingly accepting the reason, and then she spoke again:
"I can give you a recommendation to get into the party, but whether you pass the test is none of my business."
As they were talking, Sirion saw Sharon take out a green seed the size of a fingernail and hand it to him.
"If it doesn't disappear, it means you've passed."
"That simple?" Sirien was surprised for a moment, then reached out and took it, examining it carefully. He couldn't see anything special about it; it seemed to be just an ordinary bean seed.
Sharon didn't offer any further explanation. Her figure quickly became faint and transparent, merging into the glass window behind her, and then vanished just as fast.
Two seconds later, Cyril picked up the gold coin from the table in front of him, tossed it into the air, and made a claim.
After confirming that no one was following or watching him, Cyril got up, walked to the window, and pushed against the window frame.
Suddenly, a blurry, pale blue door appeared.
It replaced the original window and was embedded in the wall, like a thin curtain of water, and on the other side of this "water curtain" was a kitchen with a stove burning.
Cyril took a step forward, his figure silently blending into the crowd, appearing in the kitchen of another house not far away.
After repeatedly "opening" the door dozens of times, he finally returned to his bedroom.
The second day of the night, just as dawn was breaking.
While he was fast asleep, Cyril was suddenly struck by layers of illusory prayers echoing in his ears. In the half-dream, half-awake state, he felt his spirit leave his body and enter a deep, mysterious mirror world.
When he was fully awake and came to his senses, he saw a familiar witch, Triss, standing in front of the mirror.
She was wearing a well-fitting white nightgown, with a few dark circles under her eyes and a haggard look, as if she hadn't rested well for the past few days. Her eyes were staring blankly at the mirror in front of her.
The two exchanged a glance, but soon Cyril realized that Triss hadn't seen him. There was no reflection of him in her eyes, only an empty, strange mirror without a single reflection.
"So, in this state, I still have characteristics that cannot be observed. Is this also a manifestation of 'dimension'?"
As he muttered to himself, Cyril raised his hand and pulled a lightless curtain from the void, draping it over himself.
At the same time, he saw a dark, indistinct object appear in the mirror reflected in Triss's eyes.
He suddenly realized, belatedly, that since becoming an "astrologer," his eyesight seemed to have improved considerably.
It can see in the dark, and now it can even see the smallest details that others see clearly.
This is absolutely not the kind of ability an "astrologer" should have!
I wonder if, as my sequence advances, I'll be able to directly see through dimensions and decipher the puppets and clones of the "Master of Puppets" and the "Parasite".
As his thoughts drifted, he heard the witch Triss cautiously asking from outside the mirror:
"From an unknowable, sublime being, may I ask you some questions?"
...You disturbed my sleep so early just to ask me a question?
Xi Ruien felt inexplicably powerless, with nowhere to vent her morning grumpiness.
After a half-second silence, he took a deep breath, suppressed his emotions, and used the "fog-making" magic to create Rune words on the mirror surface:
"Yes, but I may not be able to answer."
Seeing the words appear on the mirror, Triss finally smiled, her face looking tired. She straightened her nightgown before asking:
"I want to know who is controlling my actions and thoughts."
"I tried to leave the manor and get away from Prince Edsac more than once during this time, but I failed every time, and even inexplicably slept with Edsac a few times."
"I've found that my body is getting used to him, and my thoughts are always influenced by him. It's terrifying. I feel like I'm becoming someone I don't recognize."
Cyril felt that if Triss continued, she would begin to describe the unspeakable things between her and Prince Edsack.
For the sake of his own mental and physical harmony, he condensed mist, interrupting the other person's narration:
"Among those who collaborated with the Witch Cult and the Royal Family of Loen was Ince Zangwill, the former Archbishop of the Church of the Night who defected."
He stole a level 0 sealed artifact from the Church of the Night, the 0-08 Pen of Alshogod.
"When you know about it, it also knows about you, and about everyone you come into contact with."
"The more you know about it, the more likely you are to be written into the story it weaves. You're already deeply involved, so there's no need to worry about that."
"I'm already deeply involved..." Triss stared at the fogged words appearing on the mirror, her face turning deathly pale.
She didn't believe the other person was lying to her. The fact that the other person could easily talk about this matter with her and casually mention the names 0-08 confirmed that this was a truly great being. For such a being, there was absolutely no need to deceive her.
She bit her lip, trying to use the pain to keep her mind clear:
How can I break free from the influence of that level 0 sealed artifact?
"I am willing to give everything I can for this: my body, my soul, and my faith."
In the mirror world, Cyril looked at Triss, whose expression was somewhat crazed, and shook his head slightly. Then, new words condensed on the mirror's surface:
"I don't need your body, soul, or faith; it means nothing to me."
Triss stared at the words appearing in the mirror, her face paling even further. She could only murmur, her lips pressed tightly together:
"Then... what can I do for you?"
On the deep, mirror-like surface, the mist, seemingly alive, churned and intertwined, outlining new words.
