Chapter 10: Segmented Assignments
Chapter 10: Segmented Assignments
That night, there were no further attacks. When Ron woke up, his magic power had increased to 35. This was mainly because he hadn't built any structures that could increase magic power, but instead was developing new building templates.
When he arrived at the foot of the adobe city wall, he saw Old Hall and his men chopping up the goblin corpses and mixing them with the soil, turning the yellow earth blackish-red.
"Old Hall, what are you doing?" Ron asked, instinctively covering his nose as the stench of blood assaulted his nostrils.
"Young master, goblins contain magic essence, which, when broken down, can significantly accelerate crop growth or improve soil fertility."
Ron felt nauseous upon hearing this. Using corpses as fertilizer, but seeing the villagers processing the fertilizer looking completely at ease, he had no choice but to accept it helplessly.
Thinking of fertilizer, Ron hurriedly asked, "Old Hall, is the latrine I asked you to build finished?"
Upon hearing the word "outhouse," Old Hall immediately showed disgust. It was simply too repulsive, and he couldn't understand why the young master would want to build such a filthy structure.
Ron said in a serious tone, "I discovered an ancient fertilizer-making method in the family library. The main ingredient is excrement, whether it's feces or urine, it's all excellent material."
Old Hall felt a wave of nausea wash over him. The thought that the food he would eat in the future would grow from such filth made him want to vomit.
However, the situation in the Blackthorn Wasteland left him with no choice. Upon arriving in the wasteland, the first thing to solve was the water source, which they had already addressed. Now, the next issue to resolve was the food problem.
Old Hall, steeling himself, said, "Alright! Young Master, I'll take care of it right away. I absolutely won't allow the people to urinate or defecate anywhere!"
Ron smiled with satisfaction and went to the mud-brick city wall to continue making improvements.
Although this section of the city wall is twenty meters long, it is only the wall itself. So this time, Ron laid blue bricks around the wall, and the outer wall was made of two layers of blue bricks stacked in an interlocking manner. The main adhesive used inside was soil cement.
Perhaps because there was no soil or cement, the magic power consumed was quite large. When the entire twenty-meter city wall was covered with blue bricks, and the parapet and eaves were finally built, the system finally displayed the blue brick city wall building template.
A single section of the city wall requires 40 magic points and can be built in two parts.
"Just as I expected, because there is no cement in this world, the magic power consumption is relatively high. If cement can be produced, the magic power consumption should be reduced by 5 points."
Ron gained a better understanding of the system and needed to experiment from multiple angles to see where its limits lay.
Old Hall looked at the city wall in front of him. He had never seen the original mud-brick city wall before, let alone the current blue brick city wall.
Most of the city walls in this world are built of stone, but the city wall in front of us, not to mention its defensive capabilities, is no less impressive than a stone city wall in terms of appearance alone.
Old Hall reminded him, "Young master, our main task now is to connect the walls to deal with the goblins; those earthen walls are enough."
Ron nodded: "I simply created the most perfect model of the city wall, and I naturally understand what we need now."
Old Hall felt relieved. His biggest fear was that the young master would inherit his father's perfectionist nature in architecture and build all the city walls like this, which would be troublesome.
However, he always had some doubts: the young master's construction speed was much faster than that of most building mages.
"Young master, the stone spears you asked me to make are finished. I've already had Fanta distribute them to the militia for training."
With Old Hall around, Ron could perfectly execute any idea he had, allowing him to focus on studying architectural magic and become a hands-off manager.
"Old Hall, how's the farmland clearing going?"
Ron really hadn't expected Blackthorn Wasteland to be this hot. It was only May, and the ground at midday was already hot enough to half-cook raw meat.
He couldn't even imagine what a real summer would be like, and then he glanced in the direction of the pit courtyard.
At least people can live down there, or an underground city can be built.
"Young Master, the Master once taught me an architectural model, which is a green building that can consume magic power to accelerate the ripening of crops." Old Hall couldn't help but reveal his unspeakable secret when he said this.
"What are the drawbacks?" Ron asked Old Hall, puzzled.
Old Hall said helplessly, "It requires daily magical energy to supply the fast-growing farms. Besides the magical energy, this process takes ten hours."
Ron's smile vanished instantly.
The lord is in the construction phase, and Old Hall's main tasks, besides civil engineering, include various other matters to handle. He cannot stay in the fields all day long.
Ron asked, "How many acres can you control at a time, and how much magic power does it consume each time? How much can you speed up the ripening time of crops?"
"Two acres is the limit. Normally, it consumes about one-tenth of my magic power, and the crops only take a quarter of the time to mature. If the magic power consumption doubles, it can speed up the process to one-sixth of the time." Old Hall thought for a moment and then added, "It only speeds up the maturity of the crops, it doesn't increase the yield."
Ron almost said, "What's the use?"
His right-hand men stayed in the fields to farm. Based on the current grain yield, two acres of land could only yield a maximum of 1600 catties of grain per month, enough for the people in the territory to consume for a few days.
"Continue to cultivate the farmland, mainly for planting short-term crops. You should help me build up the territory!" Ron said without thinking.
As for the food issue, he has already thought it through. If there isn't enough food, he'll just rob it. If Haaland can collect protection money, why can't he?
He didn't think his territory was weak. He might not be able to defeat an established territory like Harland, but that didn't mean he couldn't plunder other lords or the alien tribes in the Blackthorn Wasteland.
The goblin tribe was his primary target this time.
Once the city walls are built, it's uncertain who will seize whom.
Old Hall had to remind him again: "But young master, if I don't take charge of the farmland, our food supply will only last for eighteen days."
Ron glanced at Old Hall and sneered, "If there's no food, we'll just rob it!"
Old Hall looked at Ron incredulously, then smiled, nodded in agreement, and went to make the arrangements.
Ron and the others, having regained their magic, continued building the adobe walls. The template-based construction was extremely efficient; each section was twenty meters long, requiring ten points of magic, and took an hour to complete.
This further solidified Ron's idea: even if a creation that has not yet been researched in this world could be made using architectural magic, the magic power consumed would increase exponentially.
"It seems we need to produce bricks and cement." Ron made a quick decision. Just as he was preparing to build the third mud wall, Fanta came running toward him with a large number of guards and militia.
Ron frowned at Fanta. "What happened?"
Fanta strode over, his face brimming with barely suppressed excitement: "Young Master, damn it, we've found a herd of bison!"
Mad is one of the criminals. Because he was a hunter, Fanta assigned him to assist the two guards in scouting the perimeter.
Ron put down what he was doing.
The bison herd meant they could eat meat; he hadn't eaten meat in all the time he'd been here.
They had barely said they were going to steal it when the prey came knocking on their door.
"Let's go! Let's take a look."
