Chapter 18 Detection

Chapter 18 Detection

Lucius couldn't hold back any longer; he had sensed something was wrong when Felix asked him about the amount of water.

Throughout the entire process, there was not a single weighing, and no precise figures were obtained; everything relied on the subjective judgment of the two individuals.

"Captain, doesn't potion making require precise measurements down to the gram? Adding ingredients like this is really..."

That's far too frivolous.

Felix chuckled and put the tweezers back on the long table:

"As I've said before, the symbolic meaning outweighs the practical meaning."

Do you remember the distilled water from earlier? If it were up to me, I would only add a small cup. In my personal symbolic system, distilled water represents the foundation of purity, and a small cup is enough.

But you added half a bucket because, for you, the concept of 'water' should be this size.

It will not affect the final effect of the potion; it will only make the final properties and efficacy of the potion more suited to your personal characteristics.

This is why every potion is unique and perfectly suited to the user; from the very first step, it's already responding to your way of thinking.

Lucius reluctantly accepted the explanation and chose the black mandrake on the left.

"A good choice." Felix gently placed the mandrake leaf on the left into the stone pot.

The same applies to the remaining three materials; Felix would present the materials to him, and Lucius would make the final decision based on his intuition or aesthetic sense.

After all the ingredients were added, the liquid in the stone pot turned a deep blue-black color and emitted a rotten egg smell.

Lucius instinctively fanned his nose with his hand, but found it had little effect.

Felix, however, remained unfazed. He produced a vial of golden-red blood and explained:

"This is the blood of the Blazing Ones, or more precisely, mine. It contains a portion of the Blazing Ones' power, and only by burning it can the incineration be completed."

As he spoke, he walked to the flames beneath the stone pot, removed the cork from the glass bottle, and splashed the golden-red blood inside onto the flames.

In an instant, those originally ordinary flames underwent a sudden transformation.

Gold and red colors surged outward from the core of the flames, and the height of the fire suddenly increased several feet in a few seconds.

At the same time, the liquid in the pot began to boil violently, and a series of bubbles burst out with a "gurgling" sound.

Lucius stood to the side, his pupils reflecting the intertwined gold and red flames, and couldn't help but marvel at the wonder of the blood of the Fiery Ones. Then his thoughts took a turn, and he thought of a very practical problem.

He just added half a bucket of distilled water to the stone pot. If all that water ends up being part of a potion and he has to drink it...

"Captain," he cleared his throat, trying to make his voice sound less guilty:

"The potion should be much more concentrated after it's been reddened, right? Heh, I mean, am I going to have to drink a whole barrel of sex-testing potion?"

As he spoke, he pointed to the stone pot that was taller than himself.

"No need for that." Felix's reply calmed Lucius's anxious heart a little.

"After these magical potions are reddened, the mystical symbols inside will be refined into a reddened crystal."

Distilled water is merely a temporary medium to carry the symbolic meaning; the remaining piece of red crystal, about the size of a thumb, can be chewed up and swallowed.

Lucius breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this, and just then, the flames under the stone pot began to lose their golden and red hues.

At the same time, the originally dark blue-black turbid liquid in the pot began to become transparent at a speed visible to the naked eye.

In the end, only a thumb-sized red crystal precipitated in the center of the bottom of the pot.

Felix took a long-handled bronze spoon, scooped up the reddish crystal, and handed it to Lucius:

"This is the sex compatibility test magic potion."

Lucius took the red crystal and brought it close to his eyes for a closer look.

Its shape is irregular, and it is reddish-brown overall, but its interior is not completely solid.

In the very center of the crystal is a tiny hollow chamber, the walls of which are covered with a viscous, bluish-black liquid.

"Captain, should we just bite it up?" Lucius asked, looking up.

"Wait a minute." Felix didn't rush him to swallow it, but instead pulled out a piece of cardboard from his pocket.

The paper was printed with rows of colored blocks, the colors gradually changing from left to right, and each color was labeled with its corresponding name in small Horn script.

"This is a sexual compatibility test strip," Felix explained.

"After you drink the potion, you will briefly gain access to a vision called the 'Phenomenon Realm'. In the Phenomenon Realm, only the physical form has color, and each physical form has a different color."

"You can remember the color of your own personality type, and then compare it with the color blocks on the test strip to confirm your personality type talent."

Lucius thought to himself, "Isn't this just the pH test from my past life?" He put aside his inner grumbling, put the red crystal in his mouth, and then crushed it.

The scalding heat bursts in the mouth, quickly replaced by the smell of rotten eggs, which flows down the esophagus to the lungs and heart, and then throughout the body.

"Ugh!"

Lucius bent over, his vision quickly blurring as the colors around him were covered by a grayish-white. After a while, this strange feeling slowly became bearable.

"Captain, why didn't you tell me beforehand that this affinity-detecting potion smells so...?"

Before he could finish speaking, a burst of intense golden-red light exploded in his vision the moment he looked at Felix.

"You saw it?" Felix asked with a smile.

"Yes," Lucius said, putting the unpleasantness of the moment behind him.

He looked around and saw that most of the materials and items in the alchemy room had turned grayish-white, even the burning flames.

The only exceptions were Felix's golden-red hue and the faint glow that occasionally emanated from the remaining potion ingredients.

"The potion will only take effect in one minute. Calm down and remember the color of your own element." Felix's reminder drew Lucius's attention back.

He took a deep breath, raised his hands, and saw:

The first color is bright yellow, evenly distributed in the brain region; the second color is deep red, covering the entire body, intertwined with the bright yellow in the brain region.

Before Lucius could think further, the realm of images quickly faded, and the colors of the real world began to return.

"How is it? What color is it?" Felix handed the physiognomy test strip to Lucius.

After recovering from the discomfort of switching between the two perspectives, Lucius said, "Captain, I see two colors."

"Two colors?" Felix was taken aback, then laughed, "That's a good thing!"

"The more sexual characteristics you have, the more sequence paths you can choose from; however, there is an ironclad rule that nothing has more than three sexual characteristics."

"Looks like I have a knack for this too," Lucius said, praising himself before looking at the physiognomy test strip.

He found it quickly; the bright yellow and dark red colors were unusually prominent on the test strip.

This is the position of the nine principles.
