Chapter 69 Four-horned antelope
Chapter 69 Four-horned antelope
Yun'er also dug diligently.
The snow-white mud was dug out of the soil shovel by shovel and put into the wicker baskets that had been brought.
Xuan'er didn't dig. Instead, she stood at the edge of the low-lying area, observing the surroundings. Her gaze swept warily across the grassland, from left to right, from front to back, taking in every blade of grass and every tree within a radius of several miles. Her ears twitched slightly, catching every subtle sound in the wind. As soon as there was a rustling of grass, she would stare intently, only turning her gaze away when she was sure it was just the wind.
All of this is to guard against attacks from ferocious beasts.
On this vast grassland, herds of herbivores roam freely, and carnivorous beasts are not to be out of the question either.
Those predators lurking in the shadows might be hiding somewhere in the grass, watching these three small figures who have intruded into their territory with greedy eyes. Xuan'er's supernatural abilities are their most reliable eyes and ears.
Before long, Xi'er and Yun'er had dug up several baskets full of snow-white ointment, each piece radiating a rich spiritual energy. Seeing that they had dug almost all of it, the two stopped digging, filled the excavated soil back in, covered it with turf, and restored it to its original state.
Xi'er even stomped on the leveled earth to make it look as indistinguishable from the surrounding area as possible, so as not to let people or wild animals discover the secret of this place.
After they finished, she and Yun'er placed the baskets full of mud paste on the wheelless trailer, tied it tightly with vines, and then pulled the trailer away from the grassland.
"Wait a moment."
Not long after they started walking, Yun'er suddenly stopped and turned her gaze to a four-horned antelope not far from them.
The four-horned antelope was exceptionally large, more than a size larger than usual, its four long horns resembling four curved blades, gleaming white in the sunlight. It seemed to sense something amiss, lowering its head and extending its four horns forward in a defensive stance.
Yun'er planted the spear in the ground, stepped forward, and threw a punch.
In an instant, his fist struck like thunder, shaking heaven and earth.
A bolt of lightning shot out from her fist, like an angry thunder dragon, carrying destructive power, heading straight for the four-horned antelope's head. Wherever the lightning passed, the air crackled and popped, and a scorching wave of heat spread outwards.
"boom!"
With a loud bang, a fist landed on the head of the four-horned antelope.
The burly antelope didn't even have time to utter a cry before its massive body was blasted away, crashing heavily to the ground, motionless—clearly dead. A small, charred fist-shaped mark was clearly visible on its head.
Xi'er had already witnessed Yun'er's strength; she knew it when Yun'er killed the mushroom dog with a single punch on the road.
So at this moment, she simply raised an eyebrow, looking as if she was used to it.
Xuan'er had never seen it before. When she saw Yun'er casually kill a four-horned antelope that was many times larger than her with a single punch, her eyes widened, her mouth opened slightly, and her small face was filled with shock.
"Second sister, you're amazing!"
"It's alright," Yun'er said calmly, as if she had only done something insignificant.
"I'll carry it!"
Xi'er dropped the vines of the trailer, ran over, and hoisted the four-horned antelope onto her shoulder. The four huge horns dragged on the ground, leaving two shallow grooves.
She carried the four-horned antelope, and Xi'er could only go over to pull the cart. The three of them walked back along the road they had come from.
Not long after leaving the grassland, the sky suddenly darkened.
Looking up, vast expanses of dark clouds rolled in from the west, like a stampede of a thousand horses, or a black mountain pressing down overhead, obscuring the brilliant sunlight. The clouds were thick as lead, churning and rolling, their edges tinged with an eerie dark purple, within which flashes of lightning and booming sounds rose and fell, growing ever closer and louder.
It's going to rain.
Xuan'er looked up into the distance, her eyes piercing through layers of dark clouds to see even further. There, bolts of lightning continuously struck down from the clouds, and torrential rain poured down, almost engulfing the heavens and the earth. The rain curtain was like a gray waterfall, falling straight from the clouds to the earth, leaving only chaos in its wake.
"run!"
Xi'er carried the four-horned antelope and ran off. Xuan'er quickly chased after her, and Yun'er followed closely behind, pulling the cart.
The three moved with astonishing speed, traversing the mountain road as if it were flat ground, their feet barely touching the ground. The trailer bounced and swayed along the rugged mountain road, but the mud in the basket remained perfectly intact, not a single piece spilling out.
"Boom!"
A thunderclap exploded overhead, shaking the earth. The thunder was so loud that it seemed as if a hole had been torn in the sky, and even the air itself was buzzing.
The next moment, large raindrops began to fall from the sky.
The raindrops were large and dense, making a crisp "pitter-patter" sound as they hit the leaves; they splashed up in bursts on the grass; and they hit them, well, nothing happened. Xi'er didn't feel a thing as the raindrops kept pattering on her body, she just kept running forward carrying the four-horned antelope.
The rain grew heavier and denser.
In the blink of an eye, the world was reduced to a vast expanse of white, and no one could be seen more than a few dozen steps away. Rainwater streamed down their hair, their clothes were soaked and clung to their bodies, and the mountain path beneath their feet became muddy and slippery.
"Boom!"
Another bolt of lightning struck from the clouds, its silvery arc tracing the sky and illuminating the entire world. Immediately following was a deafening roar. Lightning flashed one after another, thunder roared incessantly, as if the heavens were enraged, intent on destroying the world.
The rain poured down, lightning flashed, the sky and earth were shrouded in darkness, and the surrounding fields were silent, creating a scene reminiscent of the apocalypse.
"Big sister, there's a cave on that mountain over there. Should we go there to wait out the rain before we continue?" Xuan'er shouted, pointing to the mountain on the right.
Her eyes pierced through the rain and she clearly saw a recessed stone cave on the hillside. The entrance was small and hidden by several crooked trees; if she hadn't used her supernatural powers to carefully investigate, she would never have noticed it.
"Alright! Let's go find shelter then." Xi'er replied helplessly, looking at the rain that showed no signs of stopping anytime soon.
The three of them turned around, carrying the four-horned antelope and pulling the trailer, and ran up the mountain.
The mountain path was muddy and slippery; an ordinary person would probably slip and fall every three steps, but the three of them were all extraordinary people, so how could they be troubled by such a thing? Xi'er's feet were deeply embedded in the mud, and every step was as steady as a rock; Yun'er pulled the cart behind her; Xuan'er pushed from behind, giving her a helping hand.
Soon, the three of them arrived at the cave.
The cave entrance wasn't large, about the height of a person, and looked quite ordinary from the outside, no different from any other rock crevice found on the mountain. But once inside, one discovered that the interior space was extremely spacious. The cave walls were all hard rock, the ground was dry, and there was a faint smell of dust in the air, clearly indicating that this cave had existed for a long time.
The cave was deep and dark, and the end was nowhere in sight.
The three of them did not go too deep, but found a dry spot near the cave entrance to settle down.
Xi'er unloaded the four-horned antelope from her shoulder and tossed it aside. Yun'er also placed the trailer where it wouldn't get wet. Xuan'er stood at the cave entrance, looking out through the rain, observing the situation outside.
