Chapter 49 The Gods' Tricks
Chapter 49 The Gods' Tricks
Xin Zang was still somewhat bewildered when he suddenly found himself in an unfamiliar environment.
He saw the female corpse on the ground, and the dark-skinned alien in front of him.
His instincts were screaming warnings; he sensed danger.
With the battle axe in hand, I am now protected by Buddha's light.
"A drow elf?" Xin Zang gripped the axe handle tightly, looking at the other person. "You killed him."
The male squinted, sizing up the uninvited guest.
A bounty hunter loyal to the kobolds? Or a scavenger looking to grab a piece of the pie?
But none of that matters anymore.
He kicked the wooden bowl on the ground aside, feigning elegance: "What, you want to stand up for her? Judging from your attire, you're nothing more than a lost soul wandering in the Pure Land of Ten Thousand Buddhas. I don't think you need to get involved."
Before the words had even finished, the words were spoken.
With a flick of his wrists, the male drowsy man unleashed three throwing knives gleaming with a ghostly blue poisonous light, aimed straight at Xin Zang's face.
"Clang! Clang! Clang!"
The heavy axe blade swept across, scattering all the throwing knives.
Xin Cang glanced at the white smoke rising from the axe's surface, corroded by venom, and sneered, "I know a drow elf; she's far more skilled at throwing knives than you."
The male drow's disguise vanished, revealing a ferocious expression, as if something beneath his clothes was about to burst forth.
"You short-lived wretch! Offer your life to the gods, and I'll be able to leave this awful place!"
Accompanied by agonizing screams, blood splattered, and the male drow's body began to contort.
The sound of flesh tearing rang out. Eight black legs covered in barbs burst forth from his back, lifting him up and transforming him into a half-human, half-spider monster in the blink of an eye.
The monster let out a strange cry, and with its eight limbs exerting force, its massive body lunged forward, simultaneously spewing out a large clump of pale white spider silk from its mouth, enveloping Xin Zang.
Spider silk is sticky and tough, possessing extraordinary power.
Xin Zang swung his axe, severing the spider web, but the axe blade became heavy as it became entangled in the slime.
The cave was too narrow; it wasn't suitable for his wide-open fighting style.
The monster seized the opportunity to close in, its two sharp forelimbs stabbing down in a cross motion. Xin Zang was unable to dodge in time, and a bloody gash was slashed across his shoulder, the surrounding flesh immediately beginning to turn black.
"roll!"
The pain, on the contrary, completely aroused the fanatics' ferocity.
Xin Zang ignored the disgusting spider silk and his arm muscles bulged suddenly.
boom!
A crimson fire surged forth from his palm.
The raging flames instantly burned the spider silk on the battle axe to ashes, producing a crackling sound.
Despite the oncoming poisonous fumes, Xin Zang advanced instead of retreating. He crashed into the monster's embrace, his battle axe, burning with inner fire, flashing red light as it cleaved upwards into the deformed body.
The monster let out a desperate scream.
The fire surged wildly through the wound, igniting its internal organs. The flames quickly consumed its flailing limbs and hideous head.
Its massive body crashed heavily to the ground, twitched a few times, and finally turned into a pile of charred remains in the flames.
"May your soul be tormented forever, you villain!"
The bloodstains on the axe were burned away by the fire, and the toxins that had entered the body were also eliminated by the flames.
But even a centipede, though dead, does not stiffen.
Spider magic is the signature skill of the drow elves, and its mysterious aspects are difficult for outsiders to understand.
From the ashes of the corpse, a shadow spider the size of a palm quietly crawled out.
A ghostly blue magical light silently gathered on its abdomen, aiming at Xinzang's back.
"Get out of the way!"
In the corner, Liz, disregarding everything else, cried out.
Xin Zang was stunned for a moment.
He had no idea there would be a child here.
He turned around, put down his battle axe, and walked towards the direction of the sound.
"Are you that woman's child? Long ears..." Xin Zang looked at the little girl huddled in the corner, scratched his head, and turned his back to the venomous spider that was poised to pounce.
What an idiot!
Liz gritted her teeth and lunged forward with her small body.
I wanted to push this slow-witted guy away.
However, it was at the moment she bumped into Shinzo.
The tall figure, like shattered glass, crumbled before her eyes, turning into countless points of light dancing in the sky.
Immediately afterwards, the cold rock walls, the flickering flames, the corpses on the ground... everything around them crumbled and quickly faded away, returning to a deathly silence and nothingness.
Liz missed and fell to the ground.
She raised her hand. Her body had returned to its original slender shape.
She sat in the void.
Were you scammed? How stupid of you.
I knew from the beginning that everything I saw was an illusion, a dream.
From the moment Xinzang stepped into the cave, reason reminded her that this was nothing more than an illusion created by the gods.
But when the curse lit up, she still pounced on it.
Because she dared not gamble; what if the treasure in front of her was real?
What a wicked god!
"So, what are you most afraid of? I think it's not because you're afraid of Shinzo's death."
An unfamiliar voice rang in his ear, eliciting some curiosity.
Liz froze.
For some reason, hearing that light question, her eyes suddenly stung, and she felt inexplicably wronged. Was it because of the lingering emotions from her childhood body? Or was it that she really…
"What does this have to do with you?" She took a deep breath.
"Of course... there is..." The voice paused, its tone suddenly becoming hesitant and even tinged with helplessness, "Sorry, the signal here... isn't very good... there are some things to take care of."
The sound suddenly disappeared.
No matter how wary Lis was, there was no response from the void.
The next second, the darkness ahead rippled outwards like waves.
A smooth mirror quietly appeared before Liz's eyes.
The mirror is just an ordinary mirror.
It reflected her image.
A mixed-race drow, with silver-white hair, dark skin, and the blood of a sinner flowing through his veins.
He was somewhat pathetic, like that child from years ago who hid in the shadows, helplessly watching his father poison his mother.
What exactly is she afraid of?
Are you afraid of wandering alone? Or are you afraid of foolishly falling in love with someone of a different race, like your mother did?
Was she afraid that Shinzo would one day discover her secret and kill her, or... was she afraid that the silly boy would die out there, leaving her behind, and turning her back into that destitute, lonely ghost?
The mirror surface rippled gently.
Her reflection gradually blurred, replaced by a dark, snowy landscape and a suffocating sea of corpses.
Without the divine power to protect them from the heavens, the situation on the battlefield at the valley entrance took a sharp turn for the worse.
In the scene, Xin Zang is covered in blood, the runes on his wrists are dull and lifeless, and the dark golden aura has long been corroded and shattered by death energy. The battle axe in his hand is worn beyond recognition, and he is kneeling amidst the mountain of wreckage, panting.
