Chapter 25 Sulfur Rain
Chapter 25 Sulfur Rain
In the foul-smelling air, Li Wei's voice sounded even more somber.
"Tonight, we won't fight anyone, we'll just burn the goods."
He looked at Finn, at Seamus, at every Irishman who was frowning at the stench.
"Jack's power is built on his money. He can use money to buy thugs and intelligence."
"What we need to do is cut open his money bag and turn him from a rich and powerful 'butcher' back into a penniless pauper with nothing but brute force."
Seamus looked at the stinking sacks and finally understood what was happening before him, muttering to himself:
"Sir, I understand!"
"Oh? Tell me about it!" Li Wei's face showed a rare curiosity, but it was mostly encouraging.
Thugs can be recruited anytime, but people with brains are not so easy to find.
"The rumors in the tavern were to lull the enemy into a false sense of security, and the riots in the wealthy district were to distract the guards."
Seamus patted the stinking sack on his back. "But these things are even more useful. Sulfur fuels the fire, and the thick smoke and stench produced when these leather scraps burn will keep any firefighters away."
Li Wei picked up a burlap sack, weighed it in his hand, and looked at everyone. "Seamus is right. What we need is not an ordinary fire, but a fire that no one dares to put out."
……
Late at night, the moonlight was obscured by thick clouds.
The wind at the alley entrance carried the salty smell of the harbor, but it couldn't dispel the nauseating stench emanating from the group of people.
Li Wei and his group did not choose to break through the main entrance of the dead end, but instead went around to the south side.
There was an abandoned textile factory there, burned down to its charred frame.
They carried no knives or guns, only several stinking burlap sacks on their backs.
The few simple slings that Patrick hastily made overnight became their only "ranged weapon" at that moment.
Taking advantage of the security vacuum created by the riots in the wealthy area, the group of them, like ghosts, silently climbed onto the sloping roof of the textile factory.
This is an excellent vantage point, offering a panoramic view of the entire warehouse.
Under the moonlight, the outline of the huge warehouse across the street was clearly visible.
The courtyard wall was very high, and the main gate was tightly closed, but the several skylights on the roof, which were open for ventilation, and the rows of narrow windows high on the side walls, became its fatal flaw at this moment.
Two guards from the "Bloody Hands" gang leaned against the warehouse door, one of them holding a bottle of liquor, chatting casually.
"Have you heard? That Eastern guy from the North District was scared out of his wits by Boss Jack, and he's getting kicked out by boat tomorrow."
"Haha, I knew he was a coward! Offering free tea and putting on airs! Does he think he can just touch our territory in the South District?"
"Once Boss Jack catches him, he'll hang him on the docks!"
On the rooftop, Seamus and the others listened to these words, their faces turning ashen, gripping the sacks on their backs tightly.
Li Wei ignored the noise.
He took off the burlap sack from his back and took out a simple sling.
A leather pouch with a long rope—simple in construction, yet effective.
He carefully placed a small, foul-smelling burlap sack into the leather bag, gripped the end of the rope with his left hand, and held the bag's connection point with his right hand, then began to slowly rotate it above his head.
"I saw everything clearly."
The wind was howling.
The sack moved faster and faster in his hands, turning into a blurry black shadow.
With a sudden flick of his wrist, he loosened the leather pouch.
call out!
The sack flew out of his hand, tracing a precise parabola across the night sky, and fell precisely into an open second-floor window after traveling several dozen feet.
A dull "thump" was heard immediately.
Seamus and his four brothers were filled with amazement.
They had never seen this weapon used before, but its power was obvious.
"Let's do it."
Seamus and the others immediately followed suit.
They clumsily imitated Levi's movements, struggling to throw out one "stink bomb" after another.
Suddenly, several dark figures began to whirl and spin on the abandoned rooftop.
Their aim was far inferior to Li Wei's; the first few sacks either hit the wall or landed on the open ground in the yard.
The bag ripped open, and a nauseating stench of rotting leather, fish oil, and sulfur immediately filled the night air.
"Cough...cough! What the hell is that?!"
"Damn, it stinks even worse than the garbage dump in Stinky Fish Alley!"
The guards at the gate finally realized something was wrong.
They pinched their noses, stood up in confusion, and tried to find the source of the stench.
"Damn it, did someone's manure cart overturn?"
Just as they were looking around, more sacks rained down from the sky.
Seamus and his team gradually figured out the trick, and their accuracy improved.
One, two, three...
Dozens of stink bombs rained down into the warehouse yard, hitting the windows high up.
The crisp sound of shattering glass and the dull thud of burlap sacks hitting the ground echoed one after another.
More stench permeated the area around the warehouse, an odor so strong it would make even the toughest man gag.
Inside the warehouse, the guards were overwhelmed by the sudden stench, their eyes watering and noses running.
One of the thugs, covering his mouth and nose, rushed out while cursing loudly.
"Everyone out! No one can stay inside!"
"What the hell is this? What the hell is this thing?"
Several thugs scrambled into the courtyard through the side gate, breathing in the relatively fresh air, but were still nearly fainted from the pervasive stench.
Li Wei ignored the few henchmen who had run out.
He picked up the last, and heaviest, sack from where he was standing.
In addition to the disgusting waste, the sack also contained a considerable amount of black gunpowder powder that was even finer than sand.
Li Wei did not light it immediately, but calmly calculated the wind direction and landing point.
His target was the brazier in the center of the courtyard, where the two guards had just been warming themselves.
Another whooshing sound.
The last sack landed precisely on the stone floor next to the brazier and shattered with a crack.
The grayish-black dust, mixed with sulfur powder, was blown up by the night wind, drifting and swirling towards the blazing charcoal fire.
next second.
"boom!"
A deafening roar, drowning out all other sounds in the harbor, exploded out of nowhere!
The entire wooden door of the warehouse was blown away from the inside by a powerful blast of air, crashing heavily onto the wall on the other side of the alley and shattering into pieces.
The gray-black dust was ignited the moment it came into contact with the charcoal fire.
A massive shockwave emanated from the brazier and swept outwards in all directions.
Immediately afterwards, the rum barrels inside the warehouse were detonated, resulting in a second and third, even more violent explosion.
The boundless flames devoured everything.
The closest thugs didn't even have time to scream before they were engulfed by the fireball and instantly turned into burning humanoid figures.
Within minutes, the entire underground world of the South District was alarmed.
Countless people rushed out of taverns and brothels, staring in horror at the towering green flames and black smoke.
In the firelight, a burly, bear-like figure led dozens of men, carrying knives and axes, and rushed out from the street corner.
The newcomer was none other than "Butcher" Jack.
