Chapter 50 The Scapegoat of the Mad Pumpkin-Headed Soldier
Chapter 50 The Scapegoat of the Mad Pumpkin-Headed Soldier
As a legendary ashes, Ruthel retained her extremely high combat intelligence from her lifetime, unlike those ordinary puppets who only knew how to fight to the death.
Xia Tong lowered her voice and explained her plan to Lutil in detail.
"Captain Rutil, if you think it's feasible, please do it this way."
Xia Tong gave an OK sign.
Ruthel turned toward the square, seemingly assessing the risks.
After a while, she slowly raised her hand and made an OK sign, looking adorable.
Then, Ruth's figure faded and disappeared into the air.
When she reappeared, she had already teleported silently to the side of the sleeping pumpkin-headed soldier.
Xia Tong lay prone behind cover at the other end of the square, watching Ruthel's actions with bated breath.
It must be said that the crazed pumpkin-headed soldier was sleeping very soundly.
Even as the mixed-race riots and sacrificial ceremonies around him raged on with great fanfare and deafening drums, he seemed oblivious, still fast asleep in the corner.
The headless knight Ruthel slowly drew out her knight's spear.
Then, she used all her strength to strike the latter's huge pumpkin metal helmet hard!
"when--!!!"
The blow was so powerful that a tremendous metallic tremor resounded, drowning out all the noise in the square.
After delivering that blow, Ruthel didn't hesitate for a moment. She disappeared back into the night, using teleportation to hide in the shadows of the bushes next to the plaza.
It's important to know that the mad pumpkin-headed soldier was originally a gladiator.
Because of the physical modifications they underwent and the constant, bloody battles they fought day and night in the arena, they developed severe mental disorders, or PTSD in modern terms.
They are very prone to going crazy and are extremely sensitive.
Only by stuffing their entire heads into specially made metal helmets that are pitch black and block out light and sound can their sensitive nerves feel a little bit of peace.
But now, that last vestige of peace has been completely shattered.
A tremendous banging sound echoed wildly inside the completely enclosed pumpkin helmet!
For the mentally sensitive pumpkin-headed soldier, that sound was nothing short of torture.
"roar--!!"
The enraged pumpkin-headed soldier instantly descended into utter rage and madness.
His already not-so-bright mind made him instinctively think that it was these noisy, hateful bastards in front of him who were disturbing his peaceful sleep.
He suddenly scrambled to his feet, grabbed the giant hammer from the ground, and charged towards the mixed-race group without a second thought.
"Bang!"
The giant hammer, accompanied by a whistling sound, slammed down fiercely towards the nearest winged hybrid.
The winged hybrid was still howling at the priest when a giant hammer fell from the sky, smashing it into a pile of mangled pieces of flesh.
"Awooo! Awooo! Awooo!"
Upon seeing this, the other mixed-race individuals scattered in fear.
But soon, the leader, a strong, scaly hybrid, became enraged!
It grabbed the long-handled giant axe stuck in the ground, took three steps in two, and charged towards the berserk pumpkin-headed soldier.
It swung its axe hard at the opponent's huge metal helmet!
"Clang!"
This axe strike was powerful and heavy, sending sparks flying.
The blow sent the unsteady pumpkin-headed soldier staggering backward, nearly causing him to fall flat on his backside.
However, apart from leaving a white mark, it did not cause any real damage.
That lump of iron was really too hard.
Seeing this, the mixed-breed creature with scales barked and howled at its companions.
Instantly, several winged hybrids took flight, wielding longswords and iron knives, and attacked the pumpkin-headed soldier, avoiding his hard head.
The pumpkin-headed soldier was already clumsy, and his anger completely robbed him of his reason. He only knew how to bang his head against the ground and swing his hammer wildly.
After brute forcefully taking down five or six unlucky ordinary bastards, he finally succumbed to overwhelming odds, his body covered in wounds, especially a large gash in his abdomen from which blood gushed out, and he collapsed to the ground.
The leading scaly hybrid once again wielded his serrated axe and cruelly slashed at the pumpkin-headed soldier's unprotected chest.
"laugh!"
The axe blade embedded itself straight into his chest cavity. The pumpkin-headed soldier twitched twice, then stopped struggling.
The leading group of scaled hybrids immediately began to howl excitedly.
They directed the remaining hybrids to drag the enormous corpse to the center of the fire, intending to hang it high and roast it over the flames in their rage.
"Whoosh!"
Just as the smug, scaled hybrid turned its head, a spear carrying the aura of death shot towards it from the darkness!
It couldn't dodge in time and was instantly pierced through the shoulder.
The intense pain almost clouded its judgment.
The mixed-race individuals present all turned to look at the source of the attack.
On the other side of the square, atop a high wall, stood a majestic headless knight.
The cloak of the dead bird behind her fluttered in the night wind, and she held a huge tower shield with a solar eclipse pattern in her hand, looking at them defiantly.
In an instant, the hatred was completely diverted.
The winged hybrids took to the sky, shrieking as they charged toward the headless knight Ruthel.
Meanwhile, the flightless, scaled hybrids underground, wielding enormous long-handled axes, roared and charged forward as well.
Ruthel, however, remained calm and unhurried.
She ran lightly along the high wall, always maintaining a distance that was neither too close nor too far, leading all the enraged bastards away from the square and towards the edge of the city wall in the distance.
"Now!"
Seeing that the square in front of her was now empty, Xia Tong made a quick decision.
He led Irena and the remaining Ashes Legion, crouching low, and quickly crossed the stinking hill of corpses.
They then passed through a corridor without incident.
They continued to sneak around in the dark for another 5 minutes.
It was completely dark, and Xia Tong and the others could only move forward by the faint moonlight.
On the way, Xia Tong occasionally encountered two lone ordinary bastards, but he quickly and easily took them down without making a sound.
Finally, they arrived at the door of a room that looked like a warehouse.
Xia Tong turned to look at Irena and asked in a low voice:
Is this the place?
"It's here."
Irena nodded firmly.
No one knew Moen City better than her, even though she couldn't see it.
The entire terrain, every passage, and the layout of every room were all deeply etched into her mind.
After all, she had lived here for more than a decade.
"Starting from the back of this warehouse, there is a road that leads directly to the top of Moen City."
The warehouse door had been completely destroyed and was only slightly ajar.
By the moonlight, you could see the mountain of junk piled up inside.
"Lord Xia Tong, there are some weapons that we collected in the warehouse before."
"If you find anything suitable, you can take it and use it."
Xia Tong took out the Demi-human Queen's Staff and gently infused it with her spiritual power.
The brilliance stone at the tip of the staff glowed faintly, emitting a cold light.
Compared to a torch, this light was not as eye-catching, but it was enough to see what was in front of you clearly.
Xia Tong looked around.
There are indeed a lot of old weapons piled up here.
Knives, guns, swords, halberds, hooks, stone hammers, and even huge ship anchors, miners' pickaxes, and torture wheel wheels...
"Wait, can these things be used as weapons?"
Xia Tong looked at the huge wheel and couldn't help but complain.
The people in this border region are truly full of martial spirit; some people actually use this thing to fight.
"Oh right, I remember now."
Irena suddenly said:
"My father once said that there is a portrait of a knight in the house, and a sword hanging behind the portrait. It is a family treasure."
"Huh? Is that so?"
