Chapter 2: Let the CCPD whitewash the situation.
Chapter 2: Let the CCPD whitewash the situation.
Jiang Yanming rubbed his temples, his head throbbing with pain as unfamiliar memories flooded his mind.
Instead of dwelling on those thoughts, he turned to Li Ang and asked, "Are you planning to work the night shift tonight?"
"We can't go back to Tsukishima, what else can we do?" Li Ang held the steering wheel with one hand and took out his phone to make a call with the other. "I'll ask my dad."
Jiang Yanming looked out the window. In the distance, rows of buildings were lit up with lights of various colors, forming GG logos.
"Dad, the Tsukishima Bridge has been blocked by the CCPD. I might not be able to make it back tonight." Li Ang said into his earpiece, talking to his father on the other end of the phone. "Huh? Um... Oh... Okay, I'll wait for your call."
"My dad said to wait for his call." Li Ang hung up the phone, completely bewildered. "Then I can go back to Moon Island."
Li Ang followed in his father's footsteps; his father, Uncle Li, was also a taxi driver and worked the night shift most of the time.
"Could it be that taxi drivers who drive at night are more informed than traffic radio stations?" Jiang Yanming wondered to himself.
Speechless all the way.
The taxi exited the ring road in the old port area and then drove along the coastal highway to the intersection of the Moon Island Bridge.
"Ah Ming, be careful on your way back. The CCPD hasn't caught those two illegal immigrants yet!" Li Ang reminded him.
"I know." Jiang Yanming took the luggage out of the trunk and came to the roadside. "Be careful too, don't go to the south of the city."
"I'm not stupid, why would I go to that godforsaken place in the south of the city at night?" Li Ang replied irritably, driving away into the traffic.
Jiang Yanming dragged his suitcase and turned to look at the Yuedao Cross-Sea Bridge, which is more than 600 meters long. He could vaguely see red and blue lights flashing on the other side of the bridge.
……
Moon Island, the head of the cross-sea bridge.
Five CCPD patrol cars, two large riot control vehicles, and more than ten police officers used three roadblocks to block the only land entrance to Tsukishima Island.
"Have we still not found those two bastards from the Northern Continent?"
A middle-aged, balding man in a black suit leaned against a large riot control vehicle to shield himself from the cold sea wind. He spoke to a middle-aged man in a police uniform beside him, saying, "I've deployed half of the police force from the old port area to assist you, and it's been two hours and there's still no result?"
"The guys have done their best. Tsukishima isn't that big, but it's not small either," the middle-aged officer explained. "It's five city blocks, two of which we can't easily access. We also need to search the mountains and the beach. We're short on manpower..."
"That's not important, John." The bald man pressed his right index finger against the other man's chest and hissed, "What's important is that you understand what we're really serving and that we have to find those two bastards by tomorrow morning! Otherwise, the consequences... you know."
"I need backup," John said with a heavy sigh. "Ideally, the SWAT team..."
"Impossible, there won't be any support!" The bald man raised his hand to interrupt. "They're just two illegal immigrants, even if they have a 'Order' weapon."
"Damn it!" John exclaimed, annoyed. "Those two so-called illegal immigrants are experts at dodging bullets! The guys all think they're some kind of mechanical lunatic from the North!"
"Believe me, those two bastards are just quick-witted. They haven't been trained or implanted with any modules. They're easy to deal with." The bald man patted John on the shoulder.
He stopped mid-sentence, turned to the noisy area behind him, and angrily demanded, "What's going on?"
"Chief, someone wants to enter the island, including a citizen of Shenwu Kingdom." An officer immediately responded.
"Buddy, it's yours now." The bald man glanced at John, then turned and got into the riot control vehicle.
John exhaled and quickly walked back, adjusting his mindset.
……
"Why won't you let me onto the island?"
"Wasn't it said that the bridge closure only applies to vehicles?"
"The lockdown area has been expanded."
Jiang Yanming stood beside the barricade, watching two citizens with flushed faces arguing with a CCPD police officer across the barricade. The officer's right hand was resting on the "Order" pistol at his waist.
"What happened?"
John walked over with his right hand on his sidearm at his waist. He first looked Jiang Yanming up and down through the barricades before turning to look at the two citizens.
"Chief," the officer replied respectfully, "these three citizens wish to enter the island, but according to the chief's latest lockdown order, all vehicles and personnel are prohibited from entering or leaving Moon Island."
"Which neighborhood do you two live in?" John asked after learning about the situation.
"We all live in the Moon Bridge neighborhood," one resident replied.
"Moonbridge neighborhood isn't a gated area..." John shook his head slightly. "So unfortunately, for your safety, I can't let you pass until those two illegal immigrants are caught."
The two citizens looked at each other, then turned to look at Jiang Yanming at the same time.
The people of the Divine Warrior Kingdom on Moon Island all live in the closed and autonomous southern district of the island. It is common knowledge among the residents of Moon Island that non-Divine Warrior Kingdom members and their families are not allowed to enter.
"Can he go to the island?" a citizen asked, unwilling to give up.
"Yes, we're planning to search the area around the South Island block, and we'll drop him off on the way," John explained.
"Sigh, let's go." Hearing this, another citizen reluctantly pulled his companion away.
The CCPD's Director Tsukishima has given such a compelling reason, what else can they do? Continuing to cause trouble will not benefit them.
"Kalia!" John called out.
"Chief." A young police officer rushed over.
"Take this Mr. Jiang back to the South Island neighborhood," John whispered to the young officer. "Give him a business card; maybe he can help us."
"Understood." The young officer nodded.
"The chief of Tsukishima Police Station, does he know me?" Jiang Yanming narrowed his eyes, not remembering ever seeing the other person before.
"Mr. Jiang, please come with me," came the voice of a young police officer.
……
Ten minutes later.
Moon Island, entrance to the south block of the island.
Jiang Yanming got out of the police car and, using the headlights, looked up at the tall, classical archway in front of him that read "No Entry for Strangers".
"There have been quite a few changes." He recalled that the neighborhood in front of him was significantly different from the neighborhood where he had lived for more than 20 years.
"Mr. Jiang, this is our director's business card. Please contact us if you discover anything."
The young police officer handed the suitcase to Jiang Yanming and then presented him with a rather exquisite business card.
"It depends," Jiang Yanming replied ambiguously.
The young police officer nodded, got into the police car, and turned back to Tsukishima Bridge.
Jiang Yanming put the business card away and walked along the street.
He looked around and noticed that, unlike his memory of security patrols during the day, there was no one on the streets at night.
After walking for a while, Jiang Yanming stopped and turned to look at the alley next to him. A strong smell of blood entered his nostrils.
"The smell of blood is so strong." He narrowed his eyes, pondered for a moment, and then went inside.
The alley was dark and cluttered with debris.
Jiang Yanming used his phone as a light and followed the scent of blood to push aside several cardboard boxes, where he finally saw two mangled corpses lying in pools of blood.
As a biology master's student, he had done biological experiments with his senior classmates and was no stranger to corpses, but it was rare to see one so fresh.
"The fractures in the hands and feet appear to be from blunt force trauma, the laceration on the neck resembles a sharp blade cut, and there are traces of blood spurting from surrounding buildings, indicating a ruptured major artery and excessive bleeding leading to death..."
Jiang Yanming stood on the flattened cardboard box, and with the help of his phone's light, briefly examined the various marks on the two corpses. Then he bent down and dipped his finger in a little blood, finding that the blood had not yet completely coagulated.
"Huh? That's..." He looked at it with the light from his phone and saw a black object in the pool of blood in the corner of the wall. It looked like a pistol.
"These two were shot dead." A familiar voice came from behind Jiang Yanming. "The person who did it was quite skilled; the two didn't have a chance to fire."
Jiang Yanming quickly stood up and called out to the person who came in, "Uncle Li."
"I saw that kid give you a business card. They're the people the CCPP is looking for, calling to have the CCPP come and clear things up... yeah, to use my exact words!"
"Isn't that a bit too arrogant?" Jiang Yanming was taken aback upon hearing this, thinking to himself, "I just took a nap on the plane, and the world has become this crazy?"
