Chapter 24 Animal Communication
Chapter 24 Animal Communication
After an unknown amount of time, the movements of both the man and the beast slowed down.
No longer can be heard of anger in the cries of the severed-beaked creature.
Nettie had long ago cast the Beast Speech spell on herself, so she was able to understand the language of the owl-bear.
What started as angry wails has now turned into a pleading tone: "Please stop! I'll just give you a light tap, let's just let this go! Please don't hit me anymore!"
Seeing that the time was right, Netty used the food in her hand as a medium for casting a spell, and a magical light shone forth: "Beast to Friend!"
As she uttered the name of the spell, magical light fell upon the broken beak, which uncontrollably stared at Nettie.
Its eyes no longer held the initial anger, but only endless grievance!
"Netty! It's you! Did you come to help me? They're all bullying us! Kuroba is dead, and so is my child!"
The moment it saw Nettie, it crouched down on the ground like a helpless child, large tears welling up in its eyes.
"Good boy! Broken beak! I'm so sorry I'm late." Nettie stepped forward and gently stroked the broken beak. "You've grown so big now, you can't be like you used to be!"
The broken-beaked creature crouched down in front of Nettie, nuzzling her affectionately like a docile little bird.
Nettie said softly, "Don't cry! We're here to take you home!"
"But what about Kuroba, and my children?"
To Liu Bei and the others, the sound seemed like the severed beak expressing anger. He unconsciously gripped his two swords tighter, as if he were about to draw them if things went wrong.
If it dares to attack Nettie, it means the negotiations have completely failed!
What follows is no longer a childish battle!
Nettie also noticed Liu Bei and the others' tension and suddenly realized something: Liu Bei and the others couldn't understand the words of the man with the broken beak!
How could I forget about that!
She also has enough spell slots to allow everyone to communicate normally with the severed beak!
She gently soothed the severed beak, and light flashed continuously in her hands. One beam of light fell on Asdairon, another on Liu Bei, and the last...
Ok?
Wait, there are still people here.
What about Ansel?
Nettie was completely baffled and interrupted the spell, which had no target!
"Broken Beak, I'm sorry to have kept you waiting! They still have something to say to you. That paladin over there is the new leader of the woodlands, and this elf over here is an adventurer who has helped the woodlands a lot. They are not your enemies! They will tell you the details about your child and the grudge against Blackfeather!"
The man with the broken beak turned his head and stared at Liu Bei: "Are you the new leader of the Woodlands? I acknowledge your strength? But wasn't Master Halsin the leader of the Woodlands? What did you do to him!"
In the Owl Bear's mind, a new leader is usually required to defeat the previous one. It still remembers that Master Halsin rescued it and Blackfeather from the clutches of evil men. Don't let its beastly nature fool you; it knows how to be grateful!
So when it heard Netty introduce Liu Bei as the new leader, its first reaction was to ask Halsin if this person became the leader of the woodlands by killing Master Halsin, it would do everything in its power to avenge Master Halsin!
As soon as Nettie said the word "beak cut off," he suddenly realized he had said the wrong thing.
"Master Halsin has been kidnapped by the goblins. My identity is only temporary. When Master Halsin returns, he will still be the rightful Archdruid of the Woodlands."
In nature, the hierarchy among wild animals is that the strong are above the weak, and the change of each leader means the death or expulsion of the previous leader. But the one he was talking to was just an owl bear, and Liu Bei did not expect it to understand the power transition in human groups, so he replied in this way.
And that's what he really thought!
"Goblins! Those dirty little bastards!"
The Beakless creature wasn't particularly intelligent. In the short time it had been since meeting Nettie, it had naturally noticed the goblin corpses scattered throughout the cave. How could it not know who was responsible for all of this?
"I'm going to kill them!"
To repay the debt of gratitude and to seek revenge, Brokenbeak immediately flew away to find the goblins.
"Wait a minute! Are you going to seek revenge on the goblins?"
Liu Bei shouted loudly to stop the severed beak.
"Yes, human, although you are the new leader of the woodlands, please do not stop me from taking my revenge!"
Blocked by Liu Bei, Duanhui was getting a little impatient!
"Master Halsin has been kidnapped by those goblins. Do you think you can kill them?"
"What else can I do? My family is all dead! No matter what, I must avenge them! And even more so, I must avenge Master Halsin!"
"Your child is still alive!" Asdallen, who had been listening for a long time, interrupted the conversation between the man and the beast.
"What? It's still alive? Really? Then it's here!" Only now did Broken Beak realize that he didn't find the little owl bear's body in the cave.
"Perhaps it was taken away by those goblins, just like Master Halsin!"
"Are you still going to stop me?"
"No!" Liu Bei said resolutely, "It's not that I'm stopping you from seeking revenge, it's just that now is not the time! If you go now, you won't be able to rescue your child, you won't be able to rescue Master Halsin, and you'll die there. So, please be patient! It's not just you who wants revenge, it's the Woodlands too!"
The bear with the broken beak didn't believe Liu Bei's words; to it, Liu Bei was a stranger. Its eyes turned to Neti: "Neti, you're the only one I can trust now."
Nettie stepped forward and gently stroked the downy hair on Broken Beak's face, and stroked the "beak" made of steel.
Its beak broke off shortly after birth. After Master Halsin rescued it, he commissioned a passing dwarf craftsman to make an iron beak to fit its needs, allowing it to hunt in the dangerous wilderness like a normal owl-bear. However, the iron beak became unusable as it grew.
"Let's go home! It needs to be replaced!"
The severed beak lowered its head, and its high-pitched cry resounded through the sky.
By this time, Liu Bei and his men could no longer understand the meaning of the cry; the spell of animal communication had worn off.
"Go home!"
After Nettie gave a gentle call, the man with the broken beak flapped its wings and took flight, passing through the gaping hole and disappearing into the sunlight.
Where did it go?
Asdallen asked uncertainly.
"I'm home."
"Liu Bei, Liu Bei, I've found something great! I discovered a Serene altar down there, and there's a bottle of animal-talking potion! With this, I won't have to fight that big guy anymore!" Ansel emerged from the depths of the cave with cheerful steps, still shouting excitedly.
"Huh? Where's that big guy?"
When he ran over excitedly, the severed beak had already vanished.
"Ansel, have you forgotten? Netty is a druid; communicating with beasts is a druid's specialty!"
