Chapter 1204 Miscalculation (10)
Reynard's offer was tempting, and Kyran had seriously considered trying out the relic. There was nothing to lose because he knew he could use it. However, using something that came from the Solis Clan was too risky. Moreover, Kyran knew that Lady Estrid was alive before The Fall and was likely among the few mages familiar with the Void magic energy.
Her pretending not to know the relic would react only to a Void mage struck Kyran as suspicious. For all he knew, the relic could be a trap that Estrid and Lucian conspired in order to bait a mage that might possess the Void core.
Of course, Kyran might have been overthinking things, and Estrid probably did not know the relic could only be used by someone with Void magic. Regardless of the reason, he knew that winning the relic would pose more risk to him and the people around him than the benefits it would provide to his alchemy.
After careful consideration, Kyran shook his head and said, "I'm good. If someone of Lady Estrid's caliber could not even use it, then what more with a lowly alchemist like me?"
Kyran's humility in the face of such a tempting offer was genuinely admirable, improving Reynard's opinion of him.
Reynard looked at Kyran with a faint smile at the corner of his eyes and said, "My suggestion stands if you ever change your mind."
"...Let's go."
"Very well."
The two moved on and finally reached the first floor that housed all the Crespuscule's alchemy materials.
When Kyran stepped inside the floor, he immediately enhanced his senses and looked at all the materials displayed in magic cases. Just like earlier, Reynard explained the origins of the materials and even gave overviews of what they were used for.
Kyran listened intently because reading information about them from books and hearing what an alchemist who had experience using them had to say were two different things.
Reynard was not simply explaining the materials to Kyran but also observing his reactions. Thus far, the latter's expressions remained the same, confusing him somehow. Compared to Kyran's expression when sensing the relic several floors below, he was pretty chill and appeared more interested in listening to Reynard's explanation than the materials.
After they had toured the first floor of the materials, Reynard asked, "Have you found any materials that piqued your interest?"
"...A couple," Kyran replied before looking toward the stairs leading to the next floor. "Let's move up."
"Alright."
Because of this, Kyran could estimate his array level to a certain degree using Noir and Sigma as a basis, but not his alchemy level.
In any case, Kyran guessed that his alchemy level was comparable with Estrid's simply because he could concoct transcendent-grade potions and pills. For this reason, he never thought that his side would have any problem competing with the Crepuscule Clan regarding high-quality potions and pills.
Moreover, there was Cyneah. Her Soul magic allowed her to produce transcendent-grade potions and pills even if she was only an Emperor Alchemist. Of course, she was unaware of this yet, but Kyran believed in her abilities even if she had doubts.
Then again, Cyneah's alchemy level might have already improved because she had been studying the Higher Realm's Alchemy during her free time. Sometimes, she would even assist Kyran in concocting potions and pills.
In the end, the only issue Kyran had regarding alchemy production was materials. That had been one of the main issues he wanted to address by visiting the Crepescule Clan.
With that in mind, he did not hesitate to tell Reynard the materials he wanted in exchange for the potions and pills he had on hand. Those potions and pills were not that important to him anyway. They would also not pose any problem, even if the Crepescule managed to crack the recipe and the concoction method he used in making them. Those potions would not be of help in war times, after all.
Most potions Kyran took were meant for 'beautification' or 'strengthening' one's focus.
While the latter seemed helpful in battle, it was not advisable to be consumed for a long-drawn one. After all, its side effects affect one's overall stamina, making them immobile after one use.
Obviously, Kyran did not declare the side effect when he listed that potion. The name of the potion, however, was attention-grabbing because it was named after a transcendent potion that had not been seen since The Fall— The Mind Clearing Potion.
The Mind Clearing Potion, as its name implies, could clear one's mind, allowing one to focus on the task at hand at a certain time. If a mage wanted to break through to the next level, this potion could help them concentrate and give them a better chance at achieving enlightenment.
Reynard likely wanted to buy the potion so their clan could crack the recipe and concoction method. That way, they could mass-produce them and win over all the clans in the Higher Realm again.
As for the beautification potions Kyran listed were primarily luxury items aimed at mages in the older generation. It was pretty strange to think that these beings were fixated on making themselves look young and beautiful in human form when none of those 'old' or 'ugliness' could be found in their true form.
Kyran listed other very common potions and pills, but Reynard wanted them for his clan nonetheless because of the high-quality concoction method used to make them.
"Did you find anything you like?" Reynard asked as soon as they made their way down the vault.
"Yes," Kyran replied and did not hesitate to list all the materials he wanted.
